We posted this invite last week but wanted to give you all a reminder, since we’re all very important people with busy schedules and have a lot going on. There will be ninjas, partial nudity and some sort of food and drink (how cool would it be if there really were ninjas and partial nudity?). There will be a tab (that will probably run out so get there early). There will be announcements (we’ve been busy). Most importantly, this will be a great time to meet all the folks you haven’t had a chance to meet because you were out of breath climbing Camino Alto with a hangover and didn’t feel like talking (or maybe that’s just me).

Meet Your Fellow Riders: Kevin (The Ricker) M.

It’s Thursday and MYFR day, so we reached into our trapper keeper full of rider profiles and pulled out Kevin M(The Ricker). There only can be one Kevin in this club, so Kevin M., you’re now The Ricker. The Ricker is part of the Mission Cycling Master’s Division and usually has a great story for anyone listening. Let’s see what we can learn about The Ricker, shall we?

Where are you from originally?

Saskatchewan, Canada. I’m a first-generation immigrant of Scottish parents.

And where do you live now? What brought you to SF (if you’re not from here)?

I live in Marin, after having lived in SF for a decade. Work after college brought me to the bay area.

What’s your favorite ride in the Bay Area?

Larkspur/Fairfax/Stinson/Olema loop. It’s got everything.

When did you learn how to ride a bike and who taught you?

I rode in high school all throughout Sacramento. Raleigh 12-speed baby.

Do you have a favorite restaurant or little-known spot in SanFrancisco? What is it? What do you like about it?

Burritos off the back door of the restaurant at 21st and Alabama beat ElFaro by far.

Why do you like to ride a bike?

I like that a bike gets you places. Precision and synchronicity, it’s meditation.

Centipede? Asteroids? PacMan? Tempest? Frogger?

Track and Field. I could use all four fingers on both hands to make the buttons work. I’ve set records on that game.

Can you change a flat? How fast?

< 4 minutes.

What is your favorite color?

Indigo. It’s a living dye.

What’s your favorite movie (besides Breaking Away or Quicksilver)?

American Flyers. The Hell of the West, Brain Tumors, and Jennifer Grey…

Headlands Raiders – Sydney

Jay and Ken, veterans of The Pre-Dawn Headland Raid, packed up the gear for a fieldtrip to state capital of New South Wales.

The story:

The MC Crew knows no geographical boundaries. Ken and I hit the bikes, in full MC splendor (notice the complete array of MC kit on these two), on a little Tour Down Under last week. The report from Oz: be grateful for where we live!! The roads are pot-holed, the bike lanes (when they do appear) end abruptly spitting you out into a usually bustling bus lane, and you can’t find a hill to save your life. Oh yeah, and the brakes are reversed, so if you’ve perfected the 1-2 braking technique (that’s 1 in the back, 2 in the front), you might flip over. On the plus side: the coffee is quite possibly better (Ritual notwithstanding), a winter ride was warmer than our summers, and if you ride counter-clockwise the gravitational pull works in your favor.

We’re bored playing dominoes and cutting random pieces of wood with the table saw over at HQ, so we cleaned out the Mission Cycling mailbag and found these great photos from Scott D. Apologies for the run on sentence. In 8th grade, Ms. Stadler circled my papers in green marker and wrote, ‘run-on sentence!’ Anyway.
